Wedding Calligraphy: Invitations, Envelopes, and Day-of Details

Wedding calligraphy can be a small signature detail or a visual thread throughout your celebration. Planning the lettering and the material together helps it feel personal and remain easy to read.

Spot calligraphy in invitations

Spot calligraphy is lettering created for selected parts of a design, such as the couple’s names or venue. The artwork can be reproduced in the printed suite. This differs from handwriting every invitation, and it gives the names a distinctive presence alongside readable supporting typography.

Envelope calligraphy

Hand-addressed envelopes make each mailing individual. The envelope stock, color, ink, and address length all affect the lettering. Confirm the guest-list template before preparing your addresses, and provide extra envelopes for testing and corrections.

Calligraphy beyond paper

Mirrors, acrylic, glass, and other surfaces can bring lettering into the reception. Every surface has different preparation and ink requirements. Confirm dimensions, finish, ownership, delivery arrangements, and any cleanup requirements before booking.

Book around production and access

Talk with your stationer early enough to reserve the work and test the materials. Envelope addressing must fit between printing and mailing. Seating charts and place cards need finalized guest information; on-site work also requires a venue access window.

Keep the information readable

Decorative lettering should support the guest experience. Names, table numbers, and directional information need to be visible at the distance where they will be read. A simpler supporting style can balance a more expressive script.

Prepare one final list

Use the agreed format for names, addresses, tables, and meal indicators. Review spelling and capitalization before handoff. Discuss how late changes will be handled rather than sending several conflicting versions.
